JAKARTA (Paradiso) – Sail Indonesia Moyo – Tabora 2018 can be a momentum for the recovery of tourism industry in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) after the earthquake disaster that struck in early August 2018. The event is expected to bring back NTB’s tourism hegemony considering the huge tourism potential owned by the province. Sail Indonesia Mayo – Tambora 2018 is not only held to attract tourist arrival, but also to show that it is safe to visit Lombok.
Tourism Ministry is determined to contribute to the success of Sail Moyo – Tambora 2018 by running a complete promotional strategy during pre-event, on-event, and post-event (POP). The Ministry of Tourism is holding a pre-event program entitled Bulan Pesona Lombok Sumbawa 2018, which takes place from August 18 to September 16. The on-event program, Sail Moyo Tambora 2018 takes place on 9 to 23 September 2018. It is then followed by the post-event, the Festival Pesona Mayo which will take place from 10 September to 8 October 2018.
Sail Indonesia Mayo – Tambora 2018 is held by the local government of Sumbawa Regency and Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism. Just in line with the theme of Sail Indonesia Mayo – Tambara 2018, ‘Discover Samota,’ the event is organized to promote marine tourism in West Nusa Tenggara, particularly in Satonda Island, Moyo, and Tambora or Samota Island in Sumbawa Regency, to the international world.
The Sail Mayo-Tambora will also be highlighted with a Tambora Volcano Tour, Tambora Volcano Tour, International Yacht Rally, Moyo-Tambora Cultural Performance, City Parade, Maritime Expo, Moyo-Tambora Fun Run, International Culinary Fiesta, Dialog on Maritime Culture, Investment Forum, Seminar of International Asia Pacific Geopark Network, Buffalo and Horse Race, International Paragliding Competition, and also free health services for the local community.
Not less than 42 countries joining Sail Indonesia Mayo-Tambora 2018, which will be held in Sumbawa Island from 18 August to 16 September. West Nusa Tenggara has four big events included in the national tourism calendar of 100 Wonderful Events Indonesia 2018. Therefore, it gains full support from the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism. Those events are Bau Nyale Mandalika Festival, Tambora Festival, Pesona Lombok-Sumbawa, and Moyo Festival.
Indonesian Tourism Minister Arief Yahya appreciates Sail Indonesia Moyo-Tambora, Bulan Pesona Lombok-Sumbawa 2018 and Festival Pesona Moyo as part of the attempt to promote and boost tourist visits to NTB. This year, Indonesia is targeting a visit of 4 million tourists, of which 2 million among them are foreign tourists. “To increase tourist visits to NTB, local governments have prepare around 15 main events, four of them are included in 100 Indonesia 2018 Wonderful Events, “said Minister Arief.
Arief explained that Sail Indonesia Moyo-Tambora 2018 is part of the annual international sailing events across the stunning Indonesian seas, the Wonderful Sail Indonesia 2018 . “Sail Indonesia Moyo Tambora 2018 takes the name of Moyo Island, which is an exotic island that attracts many world figures and celebrities to travel there including the late Princess Diana, legendary American rock musician David Bowie, and a beautiful Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova. We also want to show the beauty of Mount Tambora which experienced great eruptions on 1815 and shook the world, “said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.
Head of NTB Cultural and Tourism Bureau, Lalu Mohammad Faozal said that Sail Indonesia Mayo-Tambora 2018 is held by the local government of Sumbawa Regency and Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara in cooperation with the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism to promote marine tourism potentials of West Nusa Tenggara internationally.
“We have Satonda Island, Moyo Island and Tambora (Samota), must-see nature attractions with great potentials that can be managed sustainably into a hunting park, natural marine tourism park, Mount Tambora national park, marine, fisheries, livestock, plantations and others, “said Lalu Moh Faozal.
Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara has launched the NTB Calendar of Events 2018 at Soesilo Soedarma Hall of Sapta Pesona Buinding, on 14 December 2017. As many as 15 main events are going to be held in NTB for one year. They include Bau Nyale Festival (20 February 2018), Tour de Lombok Mandalika (5-9 April), Pesona Tambora Festival (9-11 April), Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (4-9 May), Rinjani 100 (5-7 May), Pesona Khazanah Ramadhan (16 May – 13 June), Mantar Paragliding XC Open (15-18 July), Bulan Pesona Lombok-Sumbawa (18 August – 16 September), Pesona Mayo Festival (10 September – 8 October), Pesona Senggigi Festival (16-20 September), Sail Mayo-Tambora (12-20 September), Rinjani Golf Tournament (November), Pesona Desa Wisata (November), and Lawata Festival (November).
Sail Indonesi Moyo-Tambora 2018 is expected to boost tourism investment in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Currently, the investment made in NTB is less than 5% of the total national investment, which reaches IDR 650 trillions. “We have been waiting for eight years for the realization of Sail Moyo-Tambora and it is just happened this year. Sail Moyo-Tambora is followed by participants from 42 countries and is expected to encourage investment and become means to promote NTB tourism, especially Moyo and Tambora Islands, Sumbawa Regency, “said NTB Deputy Governor Muhammad Amin. The investment made, said Amin, will encourage the growth of NTB regional economy which last year reached 7.1% or above the national growth. The impact, it can reduce poverty up to 2% and is expected to be 1% in the next five years.
“We’re ready to support and succeed this event. The pinnacle of Sail Moyo-Tambora 2018 will be held on September 9-23 2018 at the Port of Badas, Sumbawa and Saleh Bay,” said Muhammad Faozal. Sail Moyo Tambora itself is taken from the name of Moyo Island in Sumbawa Regency and Mount Tambora in Bima. According to Faozal, both are perfect destinations to represent tourism destinations on Sumbawa Island. Both destinations have been known worldwide.
