BALI – Artotel Group has always been highly committed to the preservation of art in Bali. Almost every month Artotel Group organizes art exhibitions.
This time ARTOTEL Sanur – Bali again held an art exhibition with the theme Prerai Anyar with Balinese artists, Swoofone and Donik Dangin.
These two artists tell about a village called Denpasar. The initial place for the ship carrying tourists to dock, is also a place where the people have a livelihood as fishermen such as Swoofone’s father and Donik.
On this basis, Swoofone and Donik had the idea of collaborating with the fishing group Astitining Segara to retell through pictures on three wooden jukung owned by Pak Gedo, a member of the fishing group.
Through the works of Prerai Anyar, Swoofone and Donik visualize coral reefs, fish, squid, octopus, and even starfish that are rarely seen on the coast of Sanur. The partitions found in the mural on the jukung depict the boundaries of the coral in the middle of the sea not far from the beach or the natural breakwater called tinggang.
This is all visualized without the usual drawing plan. They flow together, always working together, drawing each other’s distinctive shapes, then mixing and matching their colors. There are gradations of various colors in each element which Donik depicts with real shapes similar to the original, while the distinctive red, black and gold colors are depicted by Swoofone with ornamental style formations in the style of Balinese ornaments. They sketched using pencil and chalk, painted a brush on the jukung with details using a special paint for wood, giving a new face to the historic jukungs on the coast of Sanur.
Agus Ade Surya Wirawan, General Manager of ARTOTEL Sanur – Bali said, “It is an honor to continue to work with artists from Bali. This exhibition provides something very meaningful and useful for the community and tourists because through the works of art displayed, they can tell the history of Sanur and Denpasar.
