BALI – The Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (BAPETEN) in collaboration with the Physics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) – Udayana University (UNUD) held a Nuclear Safety Seminar in 2022 which is usually abbreviated as SKN 2022 in the Udayana Postgraduate Hall, Wednesday (24/8/22).
This activity is a national scientific forum which is regularly held by BAPETEN every year.
“SKN 2022 is expected to be a means to enrich knowledge, exchange and disseminate information, accommodate input from scientists/experts and activists of nuclear safety technology. In addition, this seminar is expected to be a means for outreach and strengthening coordination with other institutions in terms of the contribution of science and technology to nuclear safety in Indonesia,” said Plt. Head of Bapeten, Sugeng West Sumatra during a press conference in Denpasar, Wednesday (24/8).
SKN 2022 is held offline and online in collaboration between BAPETEN and the Physics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) – Udayana University (UNUD), as one of the implementations of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between BAPETEN and Udayana University.
Apart from the fact that Udayana University is an advanced university and has many competent human resources, the location of the Unud campus is also very strategic and very representative for other universities in central and eastern Indonesia so that it is hoped that it can introduce nuclear knowledge to the wider community.
Attending this seminar include central government agencies, local governments, universities, stakeholders such as hospitals, industry, research bodies, as well as professional associations or associations related to nuclear control.
In this SKN 2022 appeared as a keynote speaker, Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Alue Dohong virtually; Anak Agung Ngurah Gunawan from FMIPA Udayana University, Mr. David Bennett and Mr. Armin Lagumdzija virtually, as a Waste Safety Specialist from the Division of Radiation, Transport and Waste Safety Department of Nuclear Safety and Security International Energy Atomic Energy (IAEA).
More Plt. The head of BAPETEN, Sugeng Sumbarjo stated that to welcome the upcoming 2022 G20 Summit in Bali, where the big theme raised was energy transition, and in line with the government’s greater attention to issues of clean energy transition and radioactive waste management, BAPETEN raised The theme in this Nuclear Safety Seminar: “The Role of Nuclear Supervision in Green Energy Transition and Radioactive Waste Management.
With this theme, 102 papers were submitted and after going through the selection process, 91 papers were accepted to be presented at the seminar.
Of the 91 papers submitted, 12 groups of topics emerged, namely nuclear regulations, machine learning and big data processing, nuclear physics, radiation safety in the medical, industrial, nuclear installations and nuclear materials, radioactive waste management, environment, NORM and TENORM, cyber security, nuclear emergency preparedness and response, and nuclear security.
BAPETEN received many ideas and ideas from seminar participants and speakers regarding all matters related to nuclear control to achieve radiation safety through clean and environmentally friendly energy, as well as through good and integrated management of radioactive waste. Because nuclear is one of the new renewable energies (EBT) which is expected to meet domestic green energy needs.
The SKN 2022 activity is expected to be the embryo of the implementation of the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) within the Physics Study Program of FMIPA UNUD which is currently developing a medical physics expertise program.
The SKN 2022 activity is expected to be the embryo of the implementation of the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) within the Physics Study Program of FMIPA UNUD which is currently developing a medical physics expertise program.
The medical physics expertise program is one of the expertise programs in the Physics Study Program where almost 50% of the credits in the field of specialization are related to activities involving radioisotopes and nuclear power. Medical Physics graduates are expected to be able to work in hospitals, especially in radiology and radiotherapy facilities, or work in agencies dealing with nuclear power issues in Indonesia, one of which is BAPETEN.***RD
