BALI, ULTIMOPARADISO.COM – ARTOTEL Sanur – Bali collaborated with seven Balinese artists namely Agus Ramantha, Gusti Ngurah Eko B, I Gede Wira Dharma P, I Kadek Sutendra, I Kadek Ari Anggawan, I Wayan Hermawan (Rambo), and Komang Suardiana held an art exhibition entitled Refined. The exhibition opened on December 11, 2024, at ARTSPACE ARTOTEL Sanur – Bali.
This exhibition is based on the story of the cycle of birth, life, and death experienced by everyhuman and living being. In the process of living life, many things can be felt, even experienced by the artist. The big and small things in life will form a series of stories in the memories and feelings of each artist.
The symbolism of everyday life full of struggles becomes the common thread of the artists’ works in the Refined exhibition artistically and aesthetically. The title Refined also frames the diversity of the artists’ works, which are in the style of realism that produces three-dimensional paintings and decorative that produces two-dimensional paintings. The works of Agus Ramantha, Gusti Ngurah Eko B., I Kadek Ari Anggawan, and Komang Suardiana use realist object forms that become symbolism rather than reality or are created in surrealism. The dynamics of life reflected by each artist are three-dimensional. With these realist or surrealist forms, we are invited to travel with the realist objects, elements, and colors presented, whether human-sized or seen from afar. There are various stories from women’s struggles, childhood memories, economic matters, and human relationships with nature to the spiritual. The lighting in their works is like a reflection of our own lives as well, a reflection of the emotions that the artists want to convey.
I Gede Wira Dharma P., I Kadek Sutendra, and I Wayan Hermawan’s “Rambo” uses a style that tends to be decorative – with a naive approach and adapting elements of traditional Balinese painting such as Wayang Kamasan. Interestingly, as a whole Gede Wira, Sutendra and Rambo are very two dimensional, flat, but still dynamic and not static. Their works also invite us to travel to certain events that have been symbolized by certain forms like traveling with family to meet animals, plants, and animals as an expression of feelings, and human nature and its awareness to be wiser. So, each of these artists is unique in conveying their expression.
This exhibition is also a place for us to gather and share stories. This exhibition can be a conversation starter between audiences who know each other or don’t know each other and can also share about artistic and aesthetic achievements that are possible.
