Nyepi Day – which falls once a year, is a Hindu holiday in Bali, also known as Çaka New Year according to the Balinese calendar. For those who celebrate it, Nyepi is a time for people to fast, meditate, and quieten their minds from their daily routines. In addition, Nyepi is also a time when the use of electricity and any activities are prohibited for 24 hours.
The night before Nyepi Day, people hold Ogoh-Ogoh parade celebrations throughout Bali. Ogoh-Ogoh are evil monster statues made of bamboo and natural materials, symbolizing evil and ugly figures, where later after being paraded, these statues will be burned as a sign of the disappearance of evil spirits.
