BALI, ULTIMOPARADISO.COM — Bali International Hospital (BIH) introduced its international medical partners and clinicians at a Meet & Greet event, marking a new era in Indonesia’s healthcare landscape—where global standards meet local excellence.
Strategically located in the Sanur Health and Wellness Special Economic Zone (SEZ), BIH holds a unique position as a destination for medical tourism and referrals, serving both domestic and international patients. Its modern infrastructure spans 67,000 square meters, with a capacity of 255 beds, 8 operating theaters, 38 ICU rooms, and 4 cath labs. The hospital’s architecture combines functionality with healing comfort, designed to uphold dignity, accountability, and innovation.
Guests, stakeholders, and partners were given the opportunity to view BIH’s initial operations and explore its long-term vision as a center of medical excellence. BIH collaborates with Icon Cancer Centre, part of Icon Group, Innoquest and Pathology Asia Holdings, Sapporo Cardiovascular Clinic, Hong Kong Asia Medical Group (HKAMG), and SingHealth. These collaborations are designed to ensure knowledge transfer, medical skill development, improved service quality, and long-term contributions to the healthcare sector.
BIH has commenced operations with a focus on Oncology (cancer care), Cardiology (heart health), Emergency Services, Integrated Clinics, Radiology and Radiotherapy, as well as Medical Check-Ups (MCU). Additional specialties will be introduced in phases ahead of the Grand Opening in June 2025.
“The opening of BIH marks the convergence of global standards, Indonesian talent, and Balinese hospitality. Under the management of IHC and with the support of our partners, we are confidently building a legacy of care for generations to come,” said Dr. Dewi Fankhuningdyah Fitriana, MPH, President Director of PT Pertamedika Bali Hospital.
A key highlight of the event was the announcement that Icon Cancer Centre—one of the world’s largest integrated cancer care providers with over 350 specialists and approximately 3.5 million patient interactions annually—will officially begin operations at BIH in early May 2025. This marks a historic milestone, as foreign doctors will be allowed to practice in Indonesia for the first time under the governance of the Sanur Health and Wellness SEZ.
“This is more than just a hospital—it is the beginning of what’s possible when Indonesian dedication meets global capability,” said Dr. Noel Yeo, Chief of Commercial & Operations, Bali International Hospital. “Our partnership with Icon marks the start of redefining care standards, not only in oncology but across all specialties.”
BIH is equipped with world-class technology including Siemens MRI 3.0Tesla, a 256-slice CT Scanner, Varian TrueBeam, GE Senographe Pristina Mammogram, and SagiNova Brachytherapy. These systems, combined with Icon’s clinical excellence, will allow Indonesian patients to access integrated cancer care that previously required travel abroad.
“We are honored to be part of this transformative collaboration,” said Serena Wee, CEO of Icon ASEAN. “For the first time, our international team of doctors will be able to practice in Indonesia. We are proud to bring world-class cancer care closer to home for Indonesianpatients.”
Beyond oncology, BIH is supported by leading partners in diagnostics, cardiology, and professional development:
• Innoquest and Pathology Asia Holdings (Singapore) bring advanced diagnostics and laboratory precision
• HKAMG and Sapporo Cardiovascular Clinic (Japan) provide cardiology and clinical expertise
• SingHealth (Singapore) serves as BIH’s academic partner for continuing medical education and clinical advancement
This international collaboration aligns with Indonesia’s healthcare transformation agenda, supporting local capacity building, accelerating access to innovation, and improving long- term health outcomes.
“This is a historic moment,” added Dr. Hameni Wijaya, MD, Chief Commercial Officer of IHC. “We are committed to empowering professionals and building a healthcare system that Indonesia can be proud of.”
The event also acknowledged the role of Indonesia Healthcare Corporation (IHC) – PT Pertamina Bina Medika as the operator, Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) as the sovereign wealth fund investor, and Swire Pacific as the trusted international investor with a long-term vision for healthcare infrastructure and operational excellence in Indonesia.
With a strong foundation built on BIH’s pillars of commitment—medical excellence, trusted partnerships, and a focus on technology and best practices—BIH redefines the patient journey with compassion, capability, and comfort. Additionally, SEZ status provides key advantages, including legal access for foreign doctors to practice in Indonesia, the use of advanced medicines and medical technology not yet widely available, and streamlined licensing and tax incentives that support the development of a world-class medical tourism destination. In this regard, strategic vision plays a critical role in shaping the regulatory framework and positioning Sanur as an integrated medical destination. ***
